4 MISTAKES MOST CAREER PERSONS MAKE ON THEIR FIRST JOB

young man in office

After graduating school, you are all too eager to land your first job, get your first pay cheque and then dream of getting a better paying job or having a promotion and the rest of it. Sometimes, things don’t pan out as you plan it, and your expectations might end up to be your undoing.

There are some mistakes that every career person should be wary of in their first job.

1. BEING SCARED OF MAKING A MISTAKE

This is one mistake many career people make on their first job. Being scared of making a mistake would only lead you to making a mistake. Being scared of making a mistake would make you fall short of making a mistake, make you edgy and also make you seem unintelligent or rather too passive.

Be confident, and give in your best — you would adapt to the job in no time.

2. TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE

Sometimes, being a rookie can cause you to make so many mistakes and one of those mistakes is trying to please everyone in your new environment. You can never please everyone and trying to please everyone would only make you seem desperate — and your co-workers might even use you in the process.

Remember to give your job the best shot; that’s what matters most.

3. BEING SCARED OF NEGOTIATING

A lot of rookies are too desperate to land their first job that they are shy or probably afraid of negotiating. Even if you don’t get to negotiate on your salary, your bonuses, insurance, health package and overtime are some of the things you can negotiate.

4. HAVING HIGH EXPECTATIONS

After graduating school, everyone aims to land that perfect job, but there is hardly anything as a perfect job. Even the job you love most has its own dark sides; almost every job has that side that could put a frown on your face. Having high expectations of getting a perfect job is a typical mistake you should be wary of.

It’s important to know that ability to adjust quickly to your working environment is highly important; no one would hold your hands and do it for you. Don’t be scared of your first job; avoid these mistakes mentioned above, give your best shot and you would be fine.
