YOUR BIRTH MONTH MAY PREDICT YOUR HEALTH ISSUES

surprised

What month were you born? If you were born in the month of October, you have a higher risk of contracting chronic diseases compared to those born in May according to a Columbia University study.

The scientists from Columbia University used data from the New York medical databases to develop an algorithm capable of explaining the month a person is born and their risk for diseases.

According to Dr Nicholas Tatonetti, the study’s senior author and an assistant professor of biomedical informatics at Columbia University Medical Centre, the data would help scientists uncover new disease risk factors.

According to the study, a person’s risk for developing asthma is higher if they were born in July and October. People born in March face the highest risk for atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure and mitral valve disorder. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) rates pick in children born in November.

This study is in line with previous studies from researchers in Austria, Sweden and Denmark.

The researchers however noted the importance of not getting overly nervous about these results because even though they found significant associations, the overall disease riskĀ  is not that great.
