Researchers went on to study the reason for the decline of marriage in America and found a relationship between the decline in marriage and the increase in free online pornography.
One of the study authors Dr Michael Malcolm, a professor at the University of West Chester, Pennsylvania as revealed by Washington Post asked “We asked ourselves, what is helping determine whether people are married or not?”
“One of those things, we thought, could be the use of pornography.” He said
The researchers used data to analyse how 18-35 year-old men used the Internet between 2000 and 2004. They focused on the number of hours each participant spent on the internet each week and their viewing of pornography online for the past 30 days.
They then measured the correlation between pornography use and marriage rates among the more than 1,500 participants studied.
High internet usage was associated with lower marriage rates, with online pornography topping the list for those who were unmarried.
However, the researchers were careful to say that their findings fall short of being conclusive, insist that the relationship between the two also “likely runs in the direction that we assert.”
