FIND OUT THE DAMAGE EATING LATE AT NIGHT CAN CAUSE TO THE BRAIN

A research by scientists from the University of California in the United States found eating late at night when you should be sleeping damages the brain.

The study found that digesting food when you are meant to be asleep could damage the hippocampus area of the brain where memories are formed.

Scientists have always advised against eating when we normally sleep as it can raise blood sugar levels which can lead to diabetes and heart problems but this is the first time a research is linking eating late with damage to the memory.

Lead author Dawn Loh in a press release said:

“We have provided the first evidence that taking regular meals at the wrong time of the day has far-reaching effects for learning and memory.

“Since many people find themselves working or playing during times when they’d normally be asleep, it’s important to know that this could dull some of the functions of the brain.”

The study was published in the journal e-life.
