DIET COKE AND OTHER ZERO CALORIE FIZZY DRINKS CAN ACTUALLY MAKE YOU FAT

I thought Diet Coke was supposed to be a a zero calorie drink and it isn’t supposed to have an effect on the waistline but a new study by researchers in the University of Texas claims Diet Coke and other zero calorie fizzy drinks can actually make you fat. Wow.

The study focused on 749 adults aged 65 and older – and measured their diet drink consumption, waist size and weight at three follow-up meetings over a decade and the researchers observed  that diet drink users had an increase in waist circumference almost triple that of non-users – and that people who drank artificially sweetened drinks daily fared the worst.

Lead author Sharon Fowler, MPH, from the University of Texas Health Science Centre at San Antonio recommends that older individuals should try to curb their consumption of artificially sweetened drinks.
