Procrastination is a killer; it has killed many goals, many visions and many dreams. You can hardly ever be successful at any given task when you procrastinate.
Many people are unproductive just because they keep procrastinating and never get the job done.
Do you always find yourself procrastinating? These tips would help you get the job done
1. BREAK YOUR WORK INTO BITS
One way to stop yourself from procrastinating is to break the work into bits.
One of the reasons you procrastinate is because you find the work insurmountable and the task looks too difficult to perform. Just break the work into little parts, then focus on it one at a time, and you would be done with each part before you know it. Doing it this way would make the task simpler for you.
2. FINISH THE HARDER PARTS FIRST
Completing the harder tasks could make you motivated to finish off the rest of the work. After dividing the tasks into bit, start with the ones that seem difficult. When you are through with the difficult tasks, you would find it easier to do the rest.
3. CREATE DEADLINES
Give yourself specific time to finish off each task. Giving yourself specific time for each task could make you motivated to do the work.
4. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS
Distractions are a major reason you procrastinate. When you procrastinate doing a task, it’s mostly because you are carried away with something else. Distractions could be your phone, social media, checking your emails and messages when at work, and so many other irrelevant things. Find those things that distract you and do away with them when it’s work time.
5. BE WITH PEOPLE WHO MOTIVATE YOU
When you are with people who procrastinate like you, you would find it hard to stop procrastinating. But when you associate yourself with people who are motivated to do what they have to do, you will be influenced positively.
6. FOCUS ON THE END GOAL
Everyone likes a completed task, even those who procrastinate. So, when you feel down, remember the end goal and how satisfied you would feel after that task has been completed. When you have a picture of that in your mind, you would be easily motivated.
7. JUST DO IT
Pressure yourself into doing the task. People who procrastinate only end up doing their work when it’s deadline and when the pressure is on. But you can pressure yourself into doing it beforehand. Always put yourself under pressure and remind yourself of the failures of not doing it.
Procrastination means failure and you need to see it that way.
8. STOP WAITING FOR THE PERFECT TIME
One silly reason people procrastinate is because they keep waiting for the right and perfect time. It doesn’t exist; there’s nothing like the perfect time.
Procrastination is a sure way to failure; if you want to be successful at what you do, you have to curb that habit of procrastinating. I’ve never seen anyone who procrastinated their way to success.
