7 WORK HABITS YOU NEED TO STOP IMMEDIATELY

The goal of every businessman or employee is to be as efficient as they can be and put their best into promoting their organisation.

Getting the best out of your business or company means putting in your best and avoiding things that may scupper your success.

Certain habits people bring to work environment are not healthy and can ruin your productivity at work. We’re going to take a look at some of these habits.

DO NOT TAKE CALLS FROM UNKNOWN PHONE NUMBERS

The reason is simple; because you don’t know who’s calling, you have no idea what the conversation is going to be like. It’s possible it’s something you had no inkling to and that could destroy your balance and concentration at work.

It’s recommended that you use voice mail or other service that can deliver your messages later.

DO NOT EMAIL TOO EARLY IN THE MORNING OR BEFORE YOU GO TO BED

Sending or checking mail first thing in the morning can scramble your plans and priorities for the entire day, and that could cost you a reasonable accomplishment that day.

Doing the same thing late at night can cause you insomnia and reduce your productivity the next day.

DO NOT AGREE TO MEETINGS WITHOUT PROPER INFORMATION AS TO WHAT THEY’RE ABOUT

Before you agree to meet with people, make sure you know what the agendas are, and the time they’ll end. You don’t want to waste time you could have used better doing nothing with some people.

DO NOT LET PEOPLE RAMBLE

Small talk only eats up time. Wasted time is reduced time for productivity. So when you have to talk with people within your organisation, be sure to tell them to always cut to the chase. But beware to know when to apply this principle. There’s a difference between work talk and regular talk.

DO NOT CHECK MAILS REGULARLY

Doing this will create distraction and loss of focus. You want to be able to meet your deadlines and schedules. So instead, set specific times for checking those mails no matter how much they pour in every minute.

DO NOT WORK MORE TO FIX BEING TOO BUSY

The cure for being overwhelmed isn’t working more, it’s sitting down and prioritizing your tasks. So don’t make the mistake of working frantically if you’re swamped. Instead, sit down and decide what actually needs doing urgently. If that means apologizing for a slightly late return call or paying a small late fee, so be it, as long as you manage to get the important things done.

DO NOT WALK AROUND WITH A GADGET ALL DAY

If you have to set days you enjoy some time with your mobile phone or Mac, cool, just don’t walk around with it all day if you really want to give your best at work. It’s never really healthy to have that habit anyway.
