7 WAYS TO HONESTLY APOLOGISE TO YOUR PARTNER

man sorry

A relationship/marriage where couples apologise to each other could be said to be a relationship that couples don’t only love each other but respect each other as well.

Most relationship mishaps can be solved by simply saying an honest ‘I’m sorry’. But the problem is we let pride and ego stand in the way. We all make mistakes, and when we make such mistakes, we should be ready to apologise, and not just apologising, but giving an honest apology to our partners.

7 ways you can honestly apologise:

1. IT HAS TO BE HEARTFELT

To honestly apologise, you have to mean it; it shouldn’t be done grudgingly or something you just want to do because you were told to; it should come from the heart, you should be sincere and serious about it, and your partner would see your sincerity.

2. DON’T GET DEFENSIVE

People do this a lot, and it somehow kills the sincerity of that apology. An honest apology is simply acknowledging your mistakes to your partner, revealing how sorry you are to have done it and promising not to make same mistake again. But when you try to be defensive then it shows the apology isn’t sincere.

3. FACE TO FACE APOLOGY IS ALWAYS THE BEST

The best form of apology is face to face. With this, your partner would be able to judge your sincerity first hand, and decide for themselves if you really meant it or not. However, if your partner wouldn’t see you, you can send a message describing how sorry you are, keeping it also short and simple.

4. SHOW EMPATHY

If you’ve hurt your partner, you have to show your partner that you truly understand how hurt he/she feels. Take full responsibility for your actions, show care and be understanding as well.

5. SORRY ISN’T ALWAYS ENOUGH

You have to understand that sorry is never always enough; sorry can’t fix the hurt. Understand why your partner feels and hurt and do everything possible to change thereafter.

6. CHECK LATER TO KNOW IF YOU’VE BEEN FORGIVEN

You have to understand that the fact that you’ve apologised doesn’t mean it should be accepted easily, especially if it was a grievous mistake; not everyone takes being hurt easily. So, never assume that you’ve been forgiven, check on your partner to confirm that you’ve been forgiven.

7. ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS

The way you act after apologising means even more than apologising. Through your future actions, you could show your partner that you have understood your mistakes and would do things differently.

Never let ego, pride and insincerity stop you from honestly apologising to your partner.
