How satisfying can a cold drink of soda be, especially when it’s taken on a sunny day. Many of us are guilty of being addicted to the pleasure that comes with soda, but in reality, you are only doing yourself more harm than good whenever you take that extra can of soda.

If these reasons aren’t scary enough for you, then you don’t really love your health.

1. After water, the next basic content of soda is sugar, and you know the dangers excessive sugar intake can cause to the body — ageing, obesity, raises your blood sugar, contributes to cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes and heart disease, just to name a few.

2. If you are aiming to lose weight, you should refrain from soda, as its calorie content can make you fat.

3. DIABETES

Soda intake has also been linked with the risk of diabetes. According to one study, non-diet soft drinks contribute to the onset of type 2 diabetes.

4. BLOOD PRESSURE

A 2011 study by researchers from the School of Public Health at Imperial College, London found that soda intake can increase your blood pressure. The study which analysed the diets of nearly 2,700 middle-aged people in the U.S. and the U.K. found that people drinking more than one soda or other sugar-sweetened beverage a day had higher blood pressure, and that it kept going up the more they drank.

5. YOUR TEETH

Your soda intake can also affect your intake. Sugar destroys the enamel (the very hard outer layer of a tooth) of your teeth, and this can cause cavities.

6. KIDNEY

Soda intake can also affect your kidney, and you should know how vital the kidney is.

A research published in Epidemiology found that drinking two or more colas per day was associated with increased risk of chronic kidney disease.

7. HEART

Soda has also been linked with heart disease. According to a study published by the American Heart Foundation, drinking as little as one can of soda a day — regular or diet– is associated with a 48% increased risk of metabolic syndrome, a key predecessor of heart disease and diabetes.

When next you can’t control your urge for that daily can of soda or that extra can, you should think of these shocking and scary facts that soda can cause to your health.
