7 CAUSES OF DANDRUFF

dandruff

Pityriasis capitis, also known as dandruff, is a common condition of the scalp. This condition causes flake of skin to surface.

Majority of people have dandruff and it’s hard to eradicate because it keeps resurfacing. Dandruff can lead to itching and other skin diseases if care isn’t taken.

Many people focus more on how to solve the problem of dandruff without knowing its causes. The following factors would aggravate the dandruff on your hair the more.

1. EXCESSIVE USE OF HAIR PRODUCTS

Excessive use of hair products or the use of multiple products on your hair can aggravate the dandruff because of the presence of certain chemicals in those products.

2. SKIN SENSITIVITY

Some people have scalps or hair that’s sensitive to certain hair treatments or hair products. Use of those products can cause their hair to react or can irritate the scalp.

3. INADEQUATE BRUSHING OF THE HAIR

It’s important to shed dead skin cells on the scalp regularly and frequent brushing of the hair provides such functions. However, people who don’t brush properly don’t aid the shedding of dead skin cells and this increases the risk of dandruff.

4. INADEQUATE SHAMPOOING

When the hair is improperly washed, it can lead to the accumulation of oil and dead cells on the scalp which can cause dandruff and hair irritation.

5. DRY SKIN

People with dry skin are more prone to having dandruff on their hair.

6. SKIN CONDITIONS

Certain skin conditions like eczema can also make people prone to dandruff.

7. POOR DIETING

Health experts have also linked poor diet to dandruff. Consumption of processed foods, sugary foods, high salt intake, and trans-saturated fats doesn’t bode well for a healthy hair. Consumption of these foods raises the risk of flaking and in turn dandruff. Lack of foods containing zinc and vitamins can also make one prone to dandruff.

It’s important to know the causes of dandruff so you can have a healthier hair.
