6 WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE EFFECT OF NEGATIVE PEOPLE

There are so many negative people all over the place; it could be a friend, neighbour, colleague at work and even your family member. If you let them come into your life with their negative energy, they’ll definitely bring you down.

A wise quote reads: “You may not be able to control someone’s negative behaviour, but you can control how long you participate in it.”

This is how to protect yourself from the negative behaviour of people.

1. LET GO OF THE DESIRE TO CHANGE THEM

A lot of people get entangled with negative people and believe that they can change them. It’s easier for that negative person to turn you over than the other way round.

Trying to change a negative person might be at your own risk. The best way to influence a negative person is with your actions and not your words.

2. CHOOSE NOT TO BE AFFECTED

Choose not to let anything ruin your peace of mind, not even the negativity of people. Guard your peace as much as possible, and let nothing affect it. Because if you give a negative person the chance; they will kill every peace you have in you.

3. BE MINDFUL OF THE CONVERSATIONS YOU HAVE

Choose not to have certain conversations with a negative minded person. Choose to steer clear away from certain discussions and arguments, because they’ll beat you to it and leave you feeling drained afterwards.

4. MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF POSITIVITY

There isn’t a limit to positivity; build it every day and it will keep getting higher. The moment you stop building your positivity level, you leave yourself open for people to break through with their negative energy.

5. MAINTAIN A LEVEL OF EMOTIONAL DETACHMENT

You can’t be emotionally entangled with a negative person and not get affected by their negativity. You might feel you have the mental block to push their negative energy from getting the better of you, but little by little your walls will get broken and you’d be surprised at just how negative you have become, and the worst part of it all is that you might not even notice it.

6. FOCUS ON SOLUTIONS

While a negative minded person will choose to focus on the problem and complain all day about it, a positive minded person will focus on the solutions and how to solve the problem. If you bring this habit to your work when faced with a negative minded person, you wouldn’t lose your sanity.
