6 THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO YOU WHEN YOU FALL IN LOVE, ACCORDING TO SCIENCE

love

The feeling of love can be said to be a mystery; I call it a mystery because love could make you do things you wouldn’t ordinarily do and make you feel and act in strange ways.

There are certain science backed things that happen to you when you fall in love.

1. YOUR HEART BEATS FASTER

If you notice, your heart beats faster when you are with someone you love. This is caused by the neurotransmitters epinephrine and norepinephrine which promote the fight-or-flight response. This would cause more oxygen to reach your brain and your heart to beat faster.

2. YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR PARTNER OBSESSIVELY

Also, love can make you obsessed about your partner (or crush) to the point that you can’t go a minute without thinking of them. When in love, the levels of the hormone serotonin drops, and this hormone is known to have a soothing effect. People with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder tend to have a drop in their serotonin hormone.

3. MANY PARTS OF YOUR BODY REACT

When with someone you love (especially when it’s a newly found love), your face could blush, hands could become sweaty, heart would beat faster with other body reactions. This is because your adrenaline levels go up when with that special someone.

4. KISSING HAS CERTAIN EFFECTS ON THE BODY

When you kiss that person you are in love with, your pupils tend to dilate. When you kiss, your dopamine levels spikes which would make you want your partner the more.

5. KISSING ALSO AFFECTS SOME HORMONES

Kissing triggers the hormone oxytocin which is most often called the love hormone. It also tends to lower the levels of stress hormone cortisol over time.

6. LOVE COULD ALSO TRIGGER CERTAIN BODY REACTIONS

The neurotransmitter dopamine can also cause certain body reactions when in love such as sleeplessness, loss of appetite and even euphoria. Dopamine is said to make love addictive.

I’m pretty sure almost everyone has felt one of these when in love.
