6 THINGS ABOUT MARRIAGE NO ONE TELLS YOU

Married couple

When you finally get married, you would definitely get lots of advice from your parents and friends about marriage. The truth is no matter how prepared you are for marriage, there are certain things about marriage you would learn yourself when you are married. Someone once said you can’t be 100 per cent ready for marriage and I think I agree with that statement.

Below are 6 things about marriage no one tells you

1. GETTING MARRIED WON’T SOLVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS

Many people get married believing it would solve all their problems. Our families and the society at large would make us believe everything would be magical when we eventually get married but this isn’t what we really see after getting married. While you might become happier after getting married, you would also find out that getting married won’t solve all of your problems.

2. HAVING A KID WON’T SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE

Most people especially ladies most have been told that having a kid would save their marriage but after getting married you would find out that this isn’t really true. A study found that having a baby for the first time doesn’t bring joy to most couples due to stress and a feeling of loss of freedom and control over their lives after having a baby. So if you are having issues with your partner, don’t think having a baby for your partner would save your marriage.

3. MARRIAGE ISN’T HAPPILY EVER AFTER

If you want to get married just because you think marriage comes with no issues, then you need to have a rethink. Forget the ‘happily ever after’ phrase movies use to describe marriage because there would be annoying moments in your marriage. There will always be issues to deal with and the success of your marriage depends on how well you deal with these issues. Marriage is a work in progress; you would need to put in effort and have patience.

4. THE HONEYMOON PHASE IN YOUR MARRIAGE WON’T LAST FOREVER

You know how couples look so madly in love with each other while courting, during their wedding and also months after their wedding. We all expect the honeymoon phase in our marriage to last forever but the truth is that it won’t. There are days your partner would be so annoying and you would wonder why you married your partner. This stage of marriage would require you to work to remain in love. Falling is sweet but you have to also work to remain in love for your marriage to work.

5. WHAT YOU GIVE IS WHAT YOU GET

What you give is what you get is an important adage that best describes marriage. If you want a romantic partner, you also have to learn to be romantic too. If you want your partner to surprise you with gifts regularly, you also have to learn to surprise your partner with gifts too. No one tells you about this but you would always learn this after getting married. When it comes to marriage, what you give is what you get.

6. YOUR PARTNER WOULD BE VERY ANNOYING SOMETIMES

You love your partner now for how sweet he/she can be but the truth is during marriage, you would find this same person really annoying sometimes. That’s also part of being married too and you also have to learn to live with it. Just as you find your partner annoying sometimes, your partner also finds you annoying but they live with it so you have to too.

Being married is one thing but staying married is where the work really is.
