6 COMMON DRINKING MISTAKES YOU ARE PROBABLY MAKING

man drinking wine

Don’t be too sure about your drinking habits because I am very certain you are making at least one of these drinking mistakes.

Below are 6 drinking mistakes you are probably making

1. FILLING YOUR WINEGLASS TO THE TOP

Filling your wineglass to the top is a common drinking mistake most people are guilty of. Never fill your wineglass to the top because your wine needs to combine with air to open up with full flavour potential. So always fill your glass halfway up.

2. DRINKING WINE AS SOON AS IT’S POURED

Drinking wine as soon as it’s poured is another common mistake most people are guilty of. It’s advised you always swirl your wine as it ensures molecules of oxygen mix with the wine which causes the flavours to open up. Also sniff your wine too as the aroma of the wine will enhance your enjoyment of the wine.

3. NOT STORING UNFINISHED WINE

Not storing unfinished wine is another common mistake you might also be guilty of. Ensure you always store unfinished wine in the fridge as it stops the wine from spoiling. A wine properly stored in the fridge by re-corking it will be drinkable for up to three days after it has been opened.

4. TAKING A PAINKILLER BEFORE A NIGHT OUT

If you take a painkiller before a night out with friends to prevent a hangover, it’s a habit you also need to stop. Taking painkillers before a night out won’t prevent hangover because the effects of the painkiller would wear out before your night is over. Taking it in the morning after your night out is what you should do as it can help alleviate alcohol-induced aches and pains.

5. EATING A HEAVY MEAL TO STOP YOU FROM GETTING DRUNK

Most people eat heavy before a night out so they won’t get drunk. While eating heavy might delay you getting drunk, it won’t actually stop you from getting drunk.

6. ASSUMING DARK SPIRITS ARE HEALTHIER THAN LIGHTER ONES

If you assume dark spirits are healthier than lighter ones, I think you need to have a rethink. Even though dark spirits have more antioxidants than lighter ones, dark spirits have more congeners (cogeners are toxic chemicals formed during fermentation) which can worsen hangovers.
