5 TIPS THAT WOULD HELP YOU SOUND AUTHENTIC DURING AN INTERVIEW

confident man in an interview

During an interview, the interviewer wants to see the real you, the genuine you and the authentic you; but what many people bring to the table is a fictional or pretentious version of themselves — and it’s so easy for the interviewer to notice this.

An interviewer easily sees through you during an interview, and one major thing that interests almost every interviewer is authenticity — and these tips would show you how to sound authentic in an interview.

1. BE COMFORTABLE

You can never sound authentic when you are uncomfortable, tension filled or jittery. Take it like an interview and not the end of the world; be relaxed, be comfortable and feel like you can handle the situation. When you are comfortable, this would set the path to being authentic.

2. PREPARE AND NOT MEMORISE

This is another place where many job candidates get it wrong. Rather than being authentic in an interview, many job candidates give a memorised version of themselves.

Be prepared, practice interview questions and be ready for the interview and any question you would be asked. But never memorise answers — this would kill your authenticity.

3. BE ENGAGING

Answering the interview questions correctly might not always get you the job, especially if it’s a job that requires your communication skills to be on point. Rather than juts answer the questions, try to engage with the interview; communicate properly and be excited about the whole process.

4. YOUR SPEECH

The way you talk also reveals your authenticity; talk calmly and try not to rush through sentences. Be audible and pause when necessary.

If your speech shows originality, you would definitely win your interviewer over.

5. PRACTICE

Your body language, posture and gestures should be practiced. When you practice, you feel prepared, and when you feel prepared you feel comfortable — this would help you sound authentic in that interview.

Not everyone knows this, but your interviewer expects you to sound authentic and original during an interview, and if you can achieve this, it would be a big plus.
