5 REASONS YOUR SKIN LOOKS OLDER THAN IT SHOULD BE

Aging is part of life but if you fear that your skin is aging faster than it should be, then it’s important to take a good and hard look at some lifestyles that could be causing your skin to look older than it should be.

Here are 5 reasons your skin look older than it should be

1. FAILURE TO USE SUNSCREEN AND GOOD SUNGLASSES

The skin around your eyes is extremely thin and requires extra attention so failure to apply sunscreen in that area can worsen wrinkles and discoloration. When you use sunglasses without UVA/UVB protection, you exacerbate frown lines and eye wrinkles. Always ensure you apply sunscreen and use sunglasses with UVA/UVB protection. Don’t forget to wear hats or caps too.

2. BIRTH-CONTROL PILLS

You can get facial hyperpigmentation caused by hormonal surges during pregnancy by using birth-control pills. This causes brownish-gray patches to appear like shadows on the upper lip, cheeks, forehead and nose and this type of discolouration can add years to your face. This hormone-induced melasma usually fades within a year of going off the pill.

3. TOO MUCH ALCOHOL

Alcohol consumption makes your skin look older than it should be by dehydrating your body and depleting your stores of B vitamins and magnesium, which you need for good skin. Ensure you drink enough water during and after alcohol consumption.

4. FAILURE TO GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Lack of proper sleep is really bad for the skin. Cellular rejuvenation does its best work during sleep and when you fail to get adequate sleep, you disrupt the process. Ensure you get at least 7 hours of sleep every day.

5. STRESS

Stress is also bad news for your skin and can make you look older than you really are. Ensure you reduce the amount of stress you go through because the body uses up various nutrients including magnesium and vitamin C when you are stressed to create stress hormones such as cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline so you can cope with the stress.
