5 REASONS MARRIAGE IS MORE THAN JUST A RELATIONSHIP

married couple

To so many, the concept of marriage doesn’t hold much weight, as it is seen as a mere piece of paper to many. Also, many partners are content with cohabiting with each other and see little or no need to get married.

While relationships are important and provide a pathway to marriage, it cannot take the place of marriage as a lot of people try to make it seem. Some people fear getting married for various reasons; it could probably be because of their wealth, or that they don’t know who to trust or even the fear of commitment — so they play it safe and value their relationships while keeping marriage aside.

In reality, marriage is more than just a piece of paper; it goes beyond the ceremony and saying “I do”, and it’s more than just a relationship. These five reasons below prove so.

1. IT’S A UNION BETWEEN FAMILIES

While a relationship might just be an affair between two people, marriage goes way beyond that. Marriage is also a union between two families; marriage bonds two families together. In many cultures of the world, the concept of marriage doesn’t just involve the two couples, but it’s also a marriage between two families.

2. IT’S A PLATFORM TO START YOUR OWN FAMILY

Many couples cohabit and start a family without getting married, but marriage provides a better platform to start a family. When married, it’s better to raise your kids as a couple than when you are cohabiting. Families raised when married tend to last better and stay stronger than families raised when cohabiting.

3. WITH MARRIAGE, YOU GET TO SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH SOMEONE ELSE

With marriage, it isn’t just you alone; but you get to share every part of your life with someone else. Relationships don’t really provide the platform for you to do this; while you can share a bit of your life in relationships, marriage requires you share every part of your life.

4. MARRIAGE REQUIRES MUCH MORE COMMITMENT

Marriage is a huge commitment to stay true to each other, to be there for each other and to spend the rest of your lives with each other. While relationships require commitment, marriage requires total commitment. Trust, fidelity, love, commitment and dedication are some of the things marriage needs in abundance compared to relationships.

5. MARRIAGE IS MEANT TO BE FOREVER

Relationships aren’t meant to be forever, except it leads to marriage. Even though some marital issues make some marriages don’t last forever, the concept of marriage lies in the commitment of forever, and a relationship cannot assure you that.

Marriage is where you take love, commitment and relationship to the next level. There is a reason why people would come and cheer on the day you get married, but no one would come for your first date or have a cheer for your first kiss — that’s because marriage is more than just a relationship.
