Women wearing red appear more attractive to men and the effect of red on men is so strong that a woman carrying a red laptop will turn heads.
According to a study by The City University of New York, wearing red made women more attractive but this has an effect only on men who already fancied them a bit.
“Recent evidence suggests that coloration may serve a purpose in human mating, as female sexual excitement is associated with reddening of the cheeks, neck, and chest,” according to Lead author Steven G Young.
“Women are more likely to wear red than other colours when they anticipate meeting attractive, but not unattractive, men
“Heterosexual men are sensitive to red coloration on women. Compared with a range of other colours, women viewed on red backgrounds or wearing red clothing are found more attractive.”
This goes on to confirm a 2010 study by researchers in the University of Rochester in New York that found that men are more attracted to women in red.
The study was published in the European Journal of Social Psychology.
