If you notice, from the first time of seeing someone, your mind tells you if you should trust that person or not, and we most times go with that which our mind says; and there is a reason for that.
When a lady meets a man for the first time and he shows interest in her, the first thing that goes through her mind is “can I trust this man?” Likewise men, even when they are attracted to a lady, the first thing that comes to mind before building that relationship is trust. So it’s quite obvious that everyone out there is looking for who they can trust; not just only in relationship settings but in normal friendship, business dealings and every sphere of life, trust is always important.
Science actually has a reason why you trust some people from the onset and you don’t trust others. Research has shown that even from the first viewing of someone, your brain detects if you would trust that person or not.
Research at NYU reveals that pronounced cheekbone, higher inner eyebrow are things the brain perceive as trustworthy features, whereas, untrustworthy features include shallow cheekbones and lower inner eyebrows.
Our brains analyse this feature even without us knowing, and this is exactly the reason you just don’t trust that man or woman and it’s the reason why you seem to trust some people even on the first date.
The part of the brain that does this is the amygdala; it’s a small almond-shaped mass in the centre of our brains; it automatically registers a person’s facial characteristics even before we can.
According to Jon Freeman, an Associate Professor in the department of psychology, NYU “faces that appear more untrustworthy and likely to inflict harm are spontaneously tracked by the amygdala, so then the amygdala could quickly alter other brain processes and coordinate fast, appropriate responses to people – approach or avoid. With this, the reaction is instant.
From then on, we can now decide on if to build a relationship with a person or not. This is exactly the reason why you warm up to some people and you don’t to others.
