HOW MUCH WATER DO YOU NEED TO DRINK DAILY? SORRY, IT’S NOT 8 GLASSES

Water is really important as it helps carry nutrients to our cells, prevent hydration, flush bacteria from our system and replace fluids our body loses when we sweat.

Due to the importance of water, drinking 8 glasses of water daily has always been the recommended daily water intake by scientists but a Harvard study suggests there is no evidence to support this recommendation.

The Harvard study claims that the 8-glasses-per-day rule was not based on science but instead an educated guess on what the body needs to stay hydrated.

The study recommends drinking 4 to 6 glasses of water daily.

The Harvard report also noted that it is impossible to determine a single requirement for everyone, since recommendations depend on diet, weather and level of physical activity.

Expectant or breast-feeding mothers, people who are active and anyone who is sick may need more than the standard six glasses, however.

The Harvard report isn’t just recommending water to drink at this optimal standard, but fluids in general to aid in hydration. Even certain foods like watermelon, lettuce, spinach, and soups provide the body with fluids that can work in tandem with water to retain and process a healthy amount of water.
