In my opinion, marriage requires two forms of responsibility – mental maturity and financial responsibility, and they both have huge roles to play in the short term and long term as well.
In many cultures and traditions around the world, the man is seen as the head of a family while the woman is his helper, meaning a man should at least be able to provide the basic needs of his family. Without this, there would be instability the family.
There are two phases of marriage that would require different levels of financial strength. The first stage is before the birth of children and the second stage starts after your first child is born. When a man gets married, he should be prepared for the first stage of financial responsibility that comes with marriage which is to at least provide for the basic needs of him and his wife. He doesn’t have to be extremely rich, but as far as he can adequately meet the needs that come with the first stage.
The birth of children comes with even more financial burden and responsibility and it would be quite unwise to bring up children that you can’t take care of.
To me, a man shouldn’t wait until he is extremely rich before getting married. If he feels he’s ready and has seen a lady who is ready to spend the rest of her life with him, and can meet the basic needs that come with the two stages of being married then he should get married. He can always get richer while married, but getting married when he has nothing is never advisable.
