Eating hot food three times a week reduces the risk of early death according to researchers from Oxford University, Harvard School of Public health in the US and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

According to the study, people who eat spicy food every day have a lower risk of an early death from cancer,  heart disease and breathing problems.

Scientists suspect that capsaicin which is a chemical contained in chili peppers has anti-obesity, anti-inflammation, antioxidant and cancer fighting properties.

Professor Kevin McConway of the Open University in the UK while welcoming the findings believes that the relationship between eating spicy foods and a lower death rate was apparent only in people who didn’t drink alcohol at all.

The research was published in the British Medical Journal which was based on the study of 487,000 Chinese people between the ages of 30 and 79.
