BAD BREATH: 5 HOME REMEDIES TO HELP TACKLE IT

bad-breath

Bad breath or halitosis is a common health challenge among people around the world. As the name implies, it’s an odoriferous smell that comes out from the mouth, which is mostly caused by the build-up of bacteria around the tongue, or the mouth. Other factors that can cause bad breath, include; menstruation, bladder / lung disorders, alcoholics, smoking, gum diseases, and of course poor dental hygiene.

The good news about bad breath though, is that it is manageable, and can be reversed if the victim is lucky enough to realize it. There are readily available remedies for bad breath, and I’m not talking about a pack of bubble gum and minty candies (although, some of them are effective against the condition), I’m talking about remedies that are proven against the condition, that you can apply yourself, right in the comfort of your home. Check them out…

1. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

ACV contains anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties that can help fight against the growth of bacteria in the mouth which cause bad breath. To apply, mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water and drink it just after every meal.

2. BAKING SODA

Like Apple cider vinegar, baking soda is also very effective for combatting bad breath because it resists the accumulation of bacteria in the mouth. Just add a teaspoon of baking soda to your toothbrush and brush your mouth with it. Apart from its anti-bacterial powers, baking soda will also leave your breath feeling fresh.

Remember to wash your mouth thoroughly, to rid it of particles of baking soda. They can destroy your teeth overtime if left there.

3. LEMON

The acidic content in lemon helps it to prevent the growth of bacteria in the mouth and keep your breath freshened. To apply, mix 2-3 teaspoons of lemon juice with warm water and salt, rinse your mouth with it. Repeat routine daily for minimum of one week for best results.

4. CINNAMON

The cinnamic aldehyde oil from cinnamon helps to stop bad breath by reducing the growth of bacteria in the mouth. For best results, boil a teaspoon of cinnamon powder with water for 10minutes, then rinse your mouth with it.

5. HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

Hydrogen peroxide helps to prevent the mouth can also rid the mouth of bacteria. To use add to water and have a mouthwash with it. It is very effective in the fight against bad breath.

Finally, I’d like to add that even if you apply all the above measures without keeping a proper dental hygiene culture, your efforts would be in futility. The first step to combatting the condition is by brushing, both the teeth and mouth at least, twice a day (in the morning, and just before you go to sleep at night. Avoid the build-up of plaque on your teeth; they often have a bad stench. And of course, avoid food that can make your mouth smell (including cooked eggs, beans, garlic, ginger, and raw onions). Good luck!
