ARE YOU A TALL WOMAN? YOU ARE AT RISK OF THIS MEDICAL CONDITION

Most women wish they had long legs but a research presented at EuroPrevent 2017 suggests there may be a hidden health risk for taller women according to a study published in the Medical Daily.

According to the study, women over 5 feet 6 inches are about three times more likely to have a stroke than shorter women.

The researchers claim the larger heart of taller women can cause irregular and abnormal heart rhythms thereby increasing their chances of having stroke.

The researchers also advice taller women to look after their weight as weighing over 180 pounds can also add to the risk of taller women having stroke.

The researchers analysed different factors that can put a woman at risk for atrial fibrillation or an irregular heartbeat that can lead to blood clots, strokes and heart failure and found a woman’s size (height and weight) is the biggest factor.

“We found that bigger women have a greater risk of atrial fibrillation,” study author Annika Rosengren said as quoted on Medical Daily.

“There was a stepwise elevation in risk with increasing body size.

“The group with the highest body surface area had nearly three times the risk as those with the lowest body surface area.”

The study team analysed data from 1.5 million women over the course of 30 years to arrive at this conclusion.

Women over 5 feet 6 inches are thereby advised to watch their weight as weighing more than 180 pounds increases their risk of having stroke.
