young man

If you are in your 20s, you are bound to make certain mistakes as your 20s is a time of rapid transitions in your life. Some of the mistakes you make might have major consequences so that is why taking advice from those who have gone through this phase in life shouldn’t be ignored as they could come in handy.

Here are 9 lessons you would learn about life before your 30s

1. LEARNING NEVER STOPS IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Growing up as teenagers, we prayed to finish our education and get a good rest from studying because as teenagers we believed education ends after we leave the classroom. The truth is learning never stops even after you graduate and leave the classroom so if you want to be successful in life, you need to understand that learning never stops.

2. NOTHING IS GUARANTEED IN LIFE

In your 20s, you would understand that nothing is guaranteed in life. Just because you come from a wealthy home is no guarantee you would get to the top; just because you graduated from an elite university is no guarantee that you would get the best jobs. During your 20s, you would realise that you are not entitled to anything in life and you would understand the importance of being humble in life. You would also learn to be grateful for what you have because you can lose the things you take for granted in a single moment.

3. MONEY IS HARD TO EARN

As a teenager who gets everything you need from your parents, you might be tempted to think that money is so easy to make. You tend to live a fast life and spend cash without care but your mentality would change in your 20s when your family stops supporting you and you start living on your own. Whether you grew up as a spoiled kid or not, you would never understand the value of money until you start living on your own without anyone supporting you. You would understand that money is indeed hard to earn you would give every purchase a second thought.

4. LIFE IS INDEED HARD

When you live with your parents and eat three times a day without having to complain, you won’t understand how hard life really is. As you begin to get responsibilities in your 20s, you would understand that being successful requires dedication and hard work and there would always be failures and setbacks as you strive to be successful in life. You would realise that no matter the setback, you have to keep moving forward if you want to succeed.

5. YOU’LL LEARN WHO YOUR TRUE FRIENDS ARE

As a teenager, you had lots of friends as that was necessary if you wanted to be the cool boy or girl in the hood but in your 20s, you would realise that some friends won’t appeal to you anymore and that’s so natural. You would also realise that to keep friendships also need plenty of sacrifices and work from you.

6. TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE

It would have been fun if we could pause time or even rewind it but we can’t so it’s really important we make good use of our time. When you understand time waits for no one, you would value every moment you spend with important people in your life. You would also find time to pursue your passion and the things that make you happy.

7. DEBTS PUT YOU IN A RAT RACE

In your 20s as you start having responsibilities, you would understand that it’s so easy to borrow and difficult to pay back. Debts would put you in a rat race and this isn’t something you should get so deep into. Try as much as possible to get rid of your debts quickly by prioritising your spending.

8. THERE WOULD ALWAYS BE SOMEONE BETTER THAN YOU

You would learn that you need to love yourself and accept your shortcomings if you want to be happy because there would always be someone who is better-looking, smarter and more sociable than you. Don’t try to be someone else; live your life and be yourself.

9. THE DECISIONS THAT WRECK YOUR LIFE ARE THOSE THAT TAKE FEW SECONDS

In your 20s you would understand that decisions that take few seconds can have a lasting and damaging effect. You would learn the importance of thinking things true and never making any decision on an emotional impulse. Never make a decision in the heat of a moment.
