8 TERRIBLE PIECES OF RELATIONSHIP ADVICE THAT MIGHT SOUND GOOD BUT AREN’T

Advice tends to fly from every corner; friends give advice, parents give advice and many relationship websites all over the globe give advice too.

It’s one thing to be given an advice, and it’s another thigh to discern whether that advice is the right or wrong one.

There are so many pieces of advice out there that can ruin your relationship. These are some of them:

1. “YOU AREN’T GETTING ANY YOUNGER.”

“You aren’t getting any younger” is a common phrase in many relationships today; lots of men and women tend to be given this advice when they start getting older. But the truth still remains, it’s better to be single than to enter into a relationship with just any man or woman. Don’t let the pressure of this advice push you to the wrong relationship.

2. “YOU CAN CHANGE HIM/HER.”

A lot of people tend to enter a relationship with the wrong person and try to change that partner after entering the relationship. The fact that you are forcing that person to change is probably a sign that you shouldn’t even be in the relationship with that person in the first place.

3. “MEETING THE RIGHT PERSON WILL MAKE EVERYTHING JUST WORK OUT.”

There is no doubt that being with the right person will make the relationship easier and things work smoother than when with the wrong person, but it doesn’t take away the fact that you still have a lot of work and effort to put into that relationship to make it successful. No success is easy; every success requires work. For example, having the right job/business that suits you doesn’t mean you won’t work hard to achieve your goals, it only makes the working process enjoyable.

4. “LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED.”

Love is important and should be the foundation of your relationship, but it isn’t all you need. Love without understanding, love without maturity, love without compatibility is faulty and won’t stand the test of time.

5. “EVERYONE IS GETTING MARRIED, BUT YOU.”

Don’t let the pressure of other people getting married make you rush into getting married. Getting married is one thing, but staying married is the most important thing and unfortunately, most people aren’t staying married.

6. “IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU SHOULD ACCEPT ME THE WAY I AM.”

People say this a lot and I tend to cringe whenever I hear it; the fact someone loves you is the more reason you should work on yourself and your flaws rather than just being the way you are. You can always be better, and you should always strive to be better.

7. “DON’T WORRY ABOUT HIS CHEATING WAYS; HE WILL CHANGE WHEN HE GETS MARRIED.”

A lot of women tend to have this belief; but does it always work out that way? No way! If he doesn’t change before marriage then he’d hardly change after marriage. Cheating is a habit, and being married doesn’t change anything about that habit.

8. “IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU’LL DO THIS…”

Most times the words that get to accompany this sentence are usually selfish and self-centred. Don’t let anyone guilt trip you to do the wrong thing all in the name of love.

If you can discern good advice and wrong ones, you’ll rarely make mistakes in your relationship.
