time

Time is our most precious resource and also our biggest nemesis so how you use your time is really important. We all have 24 hours a day and those who make good use of their time achieve big things for themselves.

Check out ways to make good use of your time

1. MAKE GOOD USE OF YOUR PEAK PRODUCTIVITY HOURS

Making good use of your peak productivity hours will help you make good use of your time. We all have that time of the day when we feel so sharp and also at our peak productivity levels, scheduling your most important to-dos at this time is important as you get a task done quickly and efficiently during this period. For some, the time when they are at their peak productivity levels is in the morning while for others, it’s around mid-day. Whatever your time is, make sure you put it into good use.

2. ALLOCATE TIME NEEDED FOR EACH TASK

Don’t just waste all time performing a particular task. That’s a poor way to use your time. Your time should be very precious to you so I recommend you allocate time for each task. If you believe a particular task shouldn’t take you more than 20 minutes, allocate say 30 minutes to that task and make sure you get the job done before 30 minutes.

3. LEARN TO PRIORITIZE

Not everything can be done at the same time so you have to learn to prioritize if you are really serious about making good use of your time. What has to be done now should be done now and make sure you start with the most important. Create target dates to reach your goals.

4. FOCUS

Focus is needed if you want to make good use of your time. The problem many of us have is lack of focus. To make good use of your time, choose just a few things per hour to carry out and focus on them. You can’t get everything done at once, so ensuring you divide your work into tiny bits and focusing on getting them done is vital.

5. REST WHEN TIRED

You can’t achieve anything meaningful when you are tired. Working when you are fatigued is a complete waste of time. A sleep-deprived mind lacks focus and drive to stay on task. So make sure you are well-rested. According to a study published in the Journal of Sleep Research, people tend to make smarter calls and wiser decisions after they’ve had a good night’s sleep.

6. ENJOY WHAT YOU DO

When you don’t enjoy what you do, you take more time to complete the task. Enjoying what you do will make you get the job done faster. When you love what you do, you’ll feel motivated, productive and much happier to do it.

7. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR SPARE TIME

Making the most of your spare time is also very important if you want to make good use of your time. When you go to the bank or visit your doctor and you are asked to wait for your turn, use that free time to do something meaningful as this would enable you get a head start later.
