Kitchen hygiene is highly important. The kitchen is an important part of the home, and it’s the area where food is prepared; so if not properly taken care of, the food you eat could become contaminated leading to stomach upsets and other kinds of illnesses.

These tips below are highly important and should be practiced by everyone.

1. WASH YOUR HANDS

This is an important kitchen hygiene rule that should be practiced always. Your hands should be washed before cooking, after cooking and at intervals when cooking. Your hands can easily spread germs to the food, so this tip should never be taken for granted.

2. WASH KITCHEN SURFACES BEFORE AND AFTER COOKING

Your chop board, kitchen surfaces and everything used in cooking should be washed before and after cooking. Another important kitchen tool many people ignore to wash regular is the sponge used in the kitchen.

Studies reveal that the kitchen sponge has the highest number of germs in the home. Damp kitchen sponge is a good breeding ground for germs and bacteria.

Towels in the kitchen tend to retain bacteria. Researchers from Arizona University analysed kitchen towels from five different cities in the United States and Canada. The researchers found that nearly 90% of the kitchen towels were filled with enteric organisms which can cause serious illnesses and even lead to death.

So washing your kitchen towels regularly is non-negotiable.
