6 TERRIBLE MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE IN MARRIAGE TODAY

Before you heap the blame of the problems you’re facing on your marriage on someone else, have you thought that perhaps you’re not doing something right? It’s easy to trade blames. What’s harder is looking within to know if you’re doing all the right things.

Here are some of the mistakes couples make in marriage today.

FORCED MARRIAGE

The reason why your partner seems disinterested in your marriage all of sudden is perhaps because he/ she never got into it willingly in the first place. In some climes, when pregnancy comes into the frame in a relationship, marriage becomes inevitable. Now, this should be a good thing except sometimes, people use it to trap others into marriage. When this happens, sooner or later, the forced party will grow tired, and seek to move on.

We’ve also seen/ heard of occasions where rich people literally buy their interests into marrying them, forgetting that you can’t quite buy love. These factors are reasons why marriages suffer and crash today.

POOR MENTAL PREPAREDNESS

One of those ingredients needed for a success in marriage is mental maturity/ strength. Without it, it’s impossible to lead a family. It’s impossible to navigate through challenges when they come, and it’s impossible to make the right decisions. A lot of us run into marriage because our friends have done the same or perhaps our parents want that of us, not minding if we’re mentally set for it or not. The outcome is always problems and more problems.

FAILURE TO STAY IN CHARGE

Some of us don’t know the difference between being married and being single. As a single person, you are allowed to be influenced by family and friends, but that can’t happen in marriage. As a married person, you’re only responsible to your partner. Your allegiance and loyalty is to them only. You can’t allow people from outside your marriage tell you what to do. Failure to realise this truth is always bad for marriage.

UNCONTROLLED BAD HABITS

Like I said, you can only marry if you’re mentally set for it. Mental maturity here also refers to the willingness to drop those things you know aren’t healthy for you and those around you even though it may not be convenient. Knowing that you have to make a sacrifice for the greater good is the first step to getting married. When you don’t let go of immaturity, you’ll most likely hurt your marriage with all the wrong choices and decisions. Violence and cheating habits are examples of things that one needs to get over if they’re truly to get married.

LACK OF TIME AND ATTENTION FOR EACH OTHER

When you don’t spend enough time with your partner, there’s so much you miss in their life. You don’t know what they’re going through, and eventually you drive them into other arms. Time is an important factor for a successful marriage. You have to be there as much as possible, and I don’t mean once in a week, no! You have to be willing to dedicate time for yourselves as often as possible. There should be time to talk, time to laugh, time to sleep together, and do all that’s required to keep your marriage growing.

INFIDELITY

When you start cheating on your partner, it’s only a matter of time until it becomes a part of you, and that’s where the problems will arise from because you’ll be caught or exposed eventually. Even if you don’t get caught immediately, at some point, you may start having issues in your marriage because it’s difficult to keep up with lies. Someday, it’ll show in your marriage that something isn’t right with you.
