Wearing heels add class and style to one’s looks, and going a couple of months without them might make you feel awkward, but it’s worth the wait.

It might not pose much of a health risk to wear heels during the first trimester of pregnancy, but as time goes on, it might become dangerous.

These are some dangers you might likely face.

1. RISK OF BACK PAIN

During pregnancy, the ligaments in the lower back and legs are loosened. Wearing heels could put undue pressure on the pelvic and joints, which could cause back pains.

2. CRAMPS

When you wear heels for a long time, the calf muscles are in a contracted position which could lead to muscle cramps, especially during pregnancy.

3. EDEMA

Edema is a swelling that happens around the foot during pregnancy. This is usually as a result of accumulation of fluids. Wearing heels would further aggravate the swelling on the feet.

4. LOSS OF BALANCE

Due to excess body weight and hormonal changes, the strength of your ankles might not provide enough support and balance for you to don heels.

5. MISCARRIAGE RISK

Wearing heels during the third semester is not advisable at all. The risk of miscarriage is high during this period. You might find it hard to balance at this time and you must have gained additional weight also. Twist and turns and the risk of falling down could aggravate the risk of miscarriage.

6. COMFORT

The main thing you should be after during pregnancy is your comfort, and high heels won’t offer you that, it would further stress you instead. Your added weight, loss of balance, plus the fact that wearing heels messes with your body alignment should be enough reason to forgo the fashion of heels at this time.

Wearing heels might be fashionable, but its risks during pregnancy are just too much.
