Truth be told, alcohol might not be your best friend after all.

While alcohol might have some health benefits, anything above moderate use can have a devastating effect, and even health experts are yet to figure the exact quantity of alcohol that should be deemed as moderate.

Below are some of those reasons why you should be wary of alcohol.

1. OVER RELIANCE ON ALCOHOL COULD KILL YOUR CONFIDENCE / SOCIAL LIFE

A lot of people have become reliant on alcohol to the extent that they don’t have the confidence to do certain things without alcohol. If you need alcohol to give a speech or to boost your confidence level for any activity or to boost your social life, then that’s a huge problem that you should tackle immediately.

You ought to have confidence as a person and a good social life without relying on alcohol.

2. HEALTH

You should also be wary of your health anytime you gulp down alcohol into your system. Studies upon studies have shown that alcohol can be harmful to your health. Alcohol is risky during pregnancy and it could  increase the risk of liver diseases, high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke and can also increase the risk of cancer.

3. COST

Alcohol is also money consuming. It is estimated that Britons spend a collective estimate of about £30billion every year on alcohol, equating to an average of £30 per week per household on alcohol.

It isn’t only the Britons, but in Australia as well. A 2015 research found that Australians are spending more on alcohol than personal care and education.  The study found that Australian households spent an average of $32.20 each week on alcohol, which is more than tobacco ($12.50), personal care ($24) and education ($30.60), and similar to the amount spent on fuel and power ($32.50).

4. ACCIDENTS

Worst of it all is the number of accidents that occur as a result alcohol intake. Alcohol is considered to be a factor in one in five road deaths.

5. CRIME

Alcohol abuse tends to instill violent tendencies in a person. In Britain, alcohol is considered a factor in half of all violent crimes.

6. HANGOVER

If anything, hangover is definitely one of the worst feelings one can have in the morning — no thanks to alcohol.

The violent headache and awful feeling that comes with alcohol is enough to persuade one to quit alcohol abuse; however fifth sixths of Britons are perfectly aware of the dangers of alcohol and still indulge in it.

At the end of the day, alcohol isn’t really that friend in need that many refer to it as.
