6 FASHION HABITS THAT ARE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Fashion is exciting and transformative but it could also be bad for your health. While it’s important to look stylish, it’s also important to note that there are some facets of fashion that over time could be damaging our bodies and our overall well-being. Don’t you think you have the right to know these habits?

Below are 6 fashion habits that are bad for our health

1. HIGH HEELS:

High heels are super fashion items but they could also be bad for your health causing an incredible amount of pain and discomfort. Wearing a high heel isn’t good for your body alignment as wearing them over time puts an incredible amount of stress on the spine and compresses its discs over time. It can take weeks, months, or even years of altered movement to show up as discomfort which often presents itself as cramping in the toes and calves, and pain in the back and hips.

2. CARRYING BIGGER AND HEAVY BAGS:

Bigger bags are becoming fashionable, but this isn’t good news for your health because carrying these big bags mean you get to fill it with lots of items which makes it heavy. Bags are normally carried on one side (shoulder or lower arm) and this causes an uneven weight distribution in the body. This uneven weight distribution isn’t good for your body as it causes your body to shift causing muscle imbalances and one shoulder being more developed and sitting higher than other. Try to use lighter bags too and ensure you don’t always use bigger and heavy bags.

3. HEAVY EARRINGS:

Wearing heavy earrings could be fashionable but they might cause damage to your body too as wearing heavy earrings pull on the lobes of the ears, elongating the opening of the piercing. That’s not all, wearing heavy earrings can also worsen a forward held head relative to the neck and shoulders. This is called anterior head carriage. This could lead to chronic neck pain and headaches. Limit your use of heavy earrings and go for lighter earrings more often.

4. TIGHT AND UNCOMFORTABLE CLOTHES:

Wearing tight and uncomfortable clothes isn’t good for your health. You could develop foot, ankle, knee and back problems if you wear shoes that are too small or big. That’s not all, wearing a shirt or high-waist skirt that is too tight alters your breathing similar to the effects of a tight bra.

5. TIGHT BRAS:

Tight bras can also harm your health as it constricts your rib cage from expanding fully and this causes you to breathe shallower, creating chronic neck and shoulder tension, mid back pain and headaches. Avoid tight bras and go for bras that fit and are comfortable.

6. SKINNY JEANS:

Skinny jeans have become an integral part of fashion today but it can also be harmful for your health as they can cause serious nerve damage. People who wear skinny jeans are more likely to suffer from ‘meralgia paresthetica’ according to Dr Karen Boyle from the Greater Baltimore Centre, USA.
