6 DANGERS OF DEHYDRATION

Most people still don’t take dehydration seriously. Many still believe dehydration has no dangers but that’s so wrong.

60% of the human body is water and losing just 1.5% of water in the body can cause dehydration.

Below are 6 dangers of dehydration

1. DEHYDRATION DRIES OUT THE SKIN

One of the dangers of dehydration is that it leaves the skin dry. The skin needs enough water to remain healthy.

2. DEHYDRATION GIVES BAD BREATH

You need to ensure you are properly hydrated so you don’t get bad breath due to dehydration. When the body is dehydrated, saliva which has important antibacterial properties decreases. Due to the decreased saliva, bacteria thrives which results in bad breath.

3. CONSTIPATION

Another danger of dehydration is constipation. When the body is dehydrated, the body compensates by withdrawing more fluid from stool, making it harder and more difficult to pass.

4. DEHYDRATION CAN CAUSE HEADACHE

When the body is dehydrated, the body’s serotonin level is affected and this can cause headache. Try drinking enough water when next you experience headache, it could just be dehydration.

5. DEHYDRATION MAKES YOU TIRED

When the body is dehydrated, the heart rate increases, the blood flow to the brain slows and the blood pressure drops. This makes you feel tired.

6. DEHYDRATION INCREASES THE RISK OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Before driving, most people avoid drinking water to avoid regular bathroom stops when travelling. According to a research published in Physiology and Behavior, the number of driving errors doubled during a two-hour drive when drivers were dehydrated versus hydrated. So to lower the risk of traffic accidents, ensure you stay hydrated.
