The average person wants to eat everything and anything they can lay their hands on as long as it helps quench thirst and hunger; however that is not such a safe path to follow according to health professionals.
Not every consumable is healthy; there are foods that we see and ignorantly eat often; foods that contain properties that may be harmful to our general well-being and by eating them, we expose and put ourselves in harm’s way. Let us take a look at 5 of them.
Margarine is loaded with lots and lots of fat, so it’s not healthy for consumption. An example of an ever-present fat in this food is trans fat (unsaturated fatty acids), which is notorious for raising bad cholesterol and lowering good cholesterol. So if you’re not looking to become obese, you must stay away from margarine and all other foods containing it. Margarine is also known to cause coronary heart disease and diabetes. Some of the foods that contain lots of margarine are crackers, pastries and snacks.
2. PACKAGED AND PROCESSED FRUITS
Fruits are generally very healthy and nutritious because they’re known to be rich in vitamin C. However, if you must buy fruits, then you must get the right ones — buy them fresh and in their natural form. Do not buy fruits that have undergone some form of change, because they have been processed and their natural properties altered. Most of those packaged fruit juices you buy are nothing but branded sugar and colour, no nutritional value in them. You know what excessive sugar does to the body…
3. SOFT DRINKS
Some people consume as much as 7 bottles (cans) of these things each week, without knowing that they’re just raising their sugar levels. I know that these drinks (coke and other sugary drinks) can be addictive (I know because I loved them too), but you only do yourself more harm than good by consuming them excessively. They are actually nothing but sugar, water and colour; they add nothing positive to your health. In fact, a bottle of coke contains as much as 12 cubes of sugar! See how much danger you put yourself in by consuming 7 a week?
4. PROCESSED MEATS
Hotdogs, bacon, sausage all taste good, but they’re processed meats, meaning that they’re unhealthy! Processed meats come packed with preservatives, which are meant to keep them looking fresh, but are also known causes of cancer, so avoid them as much as you can.
5. DIET DRINKS
I know I told you to run away from sugar, but I wasn’t in any way encouraging you to go for diet drinks (drinks specifically made for people who do not take sugar). They’re made from artificial sweeteners, which are not really safe because they tend to reset your taste buds and make you crave more sugary drinks, as well as junk food. So, if you’re going to run away from sugar, do not run to diet drinks. Sugar is not bad in itself, anyway, it’s just that it is addictive, and an excessive consumption of it can be fatal for one’s health.
