3 WAYS TO GET YOUR FAMILY TO ACCEPT YOUR PARTNER

A lot of people have been in this very situation. You find someone you love, and connect with, and are used to, with plans already in motion towards building a future together. Then, you introduce them to your parents, and the dreaded happens – they don’t think they’re good for you, and probably want you to get somebody else. It’s a very difficult position to find oneself in, but like I mentioned, a lot of people have been there, and probably lost their relationship and soul mates along the line.

No one wants to be there because it’s a confusing place to be. You obviously have to choose between your partner and parents, and it’s not a choice anyone wants to make. So what could one possibly do when faced with something similar? Well…

TRY TO GET THEM TO SEE REASON

No matter how hard hearted a father or mother is, they still love their kids, and would be willing to give them the best. The reason they’d refuse you marrying anyone is because they think they’re not good enough for you, so it makes sense to try to convince them otherwise. Sit with them, and appeal like a child begging for their life. They may seem obstinate at first, but it’s very likely they’ll come around eventually. Of course if you have to go this route it makes sense to go through someone you are closer to. But if it doesn’t work, try the next option…

GET PEOPLE THEY RESPECT TO DO THE APPEALING ON YOUR BEHALF

Everyone has someone they respect and listen to. Your parents may not listen to you that much because you’re their ‘baby’ anyway, but they’ll listen to someone else if they respect and look up to them. It could be a religious cleric, a boss at the office, a colleague, a best friend, a sibling, or your own grandparents. If anyone of the aforementioned steps in, things may change for the better.

GO THE HARD WAY

Well, after you try the first two options, and nothing works out, it may be a good idea to stand by your your decisions by using use subtle threats. Of course, you can’t threaten their lives, because that’s criminal, but you can shake them up differently. No parent wants to lose their child, so if they were to feel threatened of losing your love and presence, that might do some serious good.

If you try all the above, and they yet prove abortive, it might come down to making a choice you think is best for you between your family and partner. Either ways, you must choose carefully because whichever you take has consequences. You need your lover, you need your parents.
