10 TERRIBLE MISTAKES YOU SHOULDN’T MAKE DURING A CONVERSATION

couple-talking

Having a conversation with someone could put you in negative or positive light; some things you do when talking to someone could create a wrong or negative perception about you.

When having a conversation with someone, there are mistakes you should try to avoid.

1. NOT LISTENING

Not listening to someone when they are talking to you is a terrible mistake you shouldn’t make when having a conversation. You aren’t worth listening to if you can’t listen to others.

2. INTERRUPTING OTHERS

A balanced conversation involves when two people talk and listen to each other, and they get to finish off their statements. Interrupting others doesn’t make the conversation proper.

3. TALKING TOO MUCH

While it’s a terrible mistake to interrupt someone during a conversation, it’s even worse when you tend to do all the talking or you talk for so long; it’d no longer be a conversation when you do this. You ought to talk and let other’s talk too.

4. FORGETTING SOMEONE’S NAME

Forgetting someone’s name isn’t proper as well; while this could happen to someone sometimes, it’s quite embarrassing when you do this. Try not to forget the name of the person you’re having a conversation with.

5. OVERREACT

Overreacting during a conversation could be in the form of laughing too hard, getting angry because you were teased or letting your emotions get the better of you. Try to keep your emotions in check during a conversation.

6. TRYING TO BE RIGHT ALWAYS

Trying to be right all the time is another bad mistake to make during a conversation. Don’t take every conversation to be a battle; trying to be right always make it seem that way.

7. NOT CONTRIBUTING TOO MUCH

Having a conversation with someone and not contributing sends a message that you aren’t interested in what’s being said.

8. POOR BODY LANGUAGE

Your body language is also important during a conversation; a poor body language can put you in bad light. Your facial reaction, body posture, expression and attitude could sell you off if you aren’t careful.

9. TRYING TO FORCE A JOKE

Not everyone is funny and even if you are, you can’t always be funny. Trying to force a joke would only make you seem awkward.

10. BEING IGNORANT

If you don’t know anything about a topic of discussion, try to become aware of it and ask questions. Don’t act like you know what’s being said and don’t be ignorant about the topic.

These 10 mistakes would sell you short during a conversation and give people the wrong impression about you.
