Ordinarily, the urine shouldn’t smell; however, there are certain factors that can make your urine stink. Your diet and certain health issues can cause your urine to have a strong smell.

Below are certain things that can cause smelly urine:

1. DEHYDRATION

This is a common cause of smelly urine. When your body lacks enough water, your urine becomes concentrated; this would cause your urine to change its colour to dark yellow or orange colour, and it would cause your urine to have a bad smell.

2. DIET

Certain foods you eat can cause your urine to have a strong odour. In many cases, asparagus can cause your urine to smell. Also, other foods like garlic, onions and coffee can also cause your urine to smell.

3. KIDNEY PROBLEMS

The kidney is the organ responsible for removal of waste products from the body. A faulty kidney could lead to the buildup of wastes, and this can in turn cause smelly urine.

4. BLADDER INFECTION

Bladder infection can also cause smelly urine or cloudy and bloody urine. Bladder infection are caused by germs that enter the body through the urethra and then to the bladder. Other symptoms of bladder infection include pains when urinating and frequent urge to urinate even when the bladder is empty.

5. MEDICATIONS

Certain medications and vitamin supplements as well as imbalance in your diets can also cause smelly urine.

6. EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF HIGH FOOD PROTEINS

Excessive consumption of foods high in protein can also lead to smelly urine. Excessive consumption of these foods can lead to excess nitrogen in the body, and a release of that would make for a bad urine smell.

7. LIVER DISEASE

Liver disease can also cause smelly urine, even though it could be said that this isn’t a common cause of smelly urine.

8. STDS AND STIS

Bad urine odour could also be caused by sexually transmitted diseases. Be sure to practice safe sex always as millions of people all over the world carry certain STIs and aren’t even aware of it.

9. KETONES

When ketones are discharged from your urine, they can cause it to have a foul smell. Ketones are produced when the body doesn’t use glucose properly. When the kidney tries to eliminate this, they can cause a significant smell in your urine.

10. HOLDING URINE FOR TOO LONG

It’s never good when you hold your urine for too long; the longer you hold your urine, the more concentrated it becomes, this can cause it to have a stronger odour than usual.

These factors are the most likely reasons people have strong smelly urine. It’s always good to know about your health and body symptoms, in order to detect certain life threatening diseases on time.
