Hello everyone and welcome to today’s Sunday Love Special.

Today’s topic is on something that happens in many marriages which leaves some partners feeling right and others feeling aggrieved.

Do you think it’s right to turn down your partner’s sexual advances when you aren’t in the mood?

Drama and Shawn will share their opinions

Drama

Absolutely! Sex is an act born out of an urge. It is the urge that makes the act enjoyable; without it, it becomes unpleasant. So if you desire to get laid and your partner does not feel the same way, it’s only reasonable and rational that you forget it, at least for that moment or period. That does not only make you a reasonable human, it also means you have respect for your partner’s feelings. If you cannot accept and respect their mood at that very moment, then, you’re no different from a rapist.

Like I have said, it doesn’t even matter if you are married to that person, they still have a right to deny you sex if they don’t feel like doing it. There’s nothing disrespectful or unfaithful about it, it means they’re human and they have mood swings like anybody else. However I’d like to add that if it becomes too consistent or the break takes too long to be cut, then you may have cause to worry. Sometimes, one can deny you sex if they are no longer in love with you or they want to punish you for something.

Shawn

Marriage is a union between two people, and one key foundation of that union is agreement. For two people to get married, it’s because they have agreed to get married, and many other things surrounding marriage centres on agreement. The moment couples stop agreeing with each other, problems and misunderstanding start.

The sex life of a couple is quite important and yet delicate, so should be threaded with caution. Sex isn’t just a physical activity, but an emotional one as well, and is more or less affected by your different sex drives and stress levels, which could make one couple be in the mood and the other would just want to sleep. A situation like this is quite dicey, and while the sex starved partner might feel aggrieved, the other might feel right to withhold sex.

This is where the principle of agreement comes in, because upon closer look, both partners have a point and are a bit selfish at the same time. It’s unfair to leave your partner starved, and it’s unfair to pressure your partner into sex when your partner is stressed out and in need of a rest. So, in a situation like this, the sex starved partner ought to be a bit more understanding, while the stressed out partner should try to compromise – maybe promise your partner that you’d have a little rest and get back to his/her needs when you’re up – and you must always remember to keep to your words.

By this, the principle of agreement will come to play, and what might have seemed like a difficult situation will become easily solved.
