It’s another Elcrema Sunday Love Special and the topic we have on ground today is one that is very controversial. Like people would say “don’t kill yourself in that relationship”; that made me title today’s topic “divorce or die in that relationship”.<\/p>\n
Divorce really is a serious issue; for two people to be in love and get married and then decide to divorce is really something huge. So many people are against divorce; religion more especially kicks against it. But my question is should couples divorce or should they still try to maintain that relationship?<\/p>\n
I’m handling today’s Sunday Special with S.O.Z; I don’t have much to say on the matter but I think S.O.Z is in a good mood to talk today and he has a whole lot to say on the matter.<\/p>\n

Divorce is stressful; going through a divorce isn’t easy; financially and otherwise. Divorce leaves you drained emotionally. Religion is against divorce for a very strong reason. It sees marriage as a union in which two people become one; so how can two people who are one then become separate? A vow is a very strong commitment and a marriage vow is “for better, for worse”.<\/p>\n
People think that divorce is easy but that’s not the case. Divorce is very far away from easy. Divorce only shows that you made a mistake in choosing your life partner; it shows that you guys were in a hurry to get married but weren’t ready to make it work. There is nothing good about a divorce.<\/p>\n
Inasmuch as I’m not against divorce, I’m also not in support of it. Marriage can be terrible when you and your spouse aren’t compatible; a bad marriage can even be worse than living in hell; a bad marriage can kill and no one would want to die as a result of a bad marriage.<\/p>\n
I know you are still at a loss on which side I stand, well I’m not in support of any. I believe in courtship; I believe that if you court a guy or a lady for a long time then you should know if your marriage would blossom or would just be a living hell; it’s just about being sincere to yourself and not letting your emotions get the better of you. And I believe if you court someone and love the person enough to get married then divorce shouldn’t be an option. You both shouldn’t be too lazy to work hard in maintaining that relationship. Well that’s my view on the matter and like I said my colleague S.O.Z is in a good mood to thrill us today; so let’s what he has to say about the matter.<\/p>\n

I think Shawn is just trying to be sentimental and he knows it. We all make mistakes and that’s why we are humans. Sometimes we can be short-sighted and that could make us marry the wrong person. Courting doesn’t mean living with a man all day in his house; those are two different things. A couple can be so into each other sincerely during courtship but when they enter the marriage scenario, it becomes a cat and dog show. So Shawn I don’t agree with you when you say courtship would prevent divorce; it wouldn’t work in all cases.<\/p>\n
And as for religion being against divorce, that’s also another thing I don’t support. Religion shouldn’t force you to make a personal decision that would determine your happiness. Religion wouldn’t join you in the sufferings of that relationship; the tears, the heartbreak, the fights, the trauma; so no religion, I don’t agree with you.<\/p>\n
If you are in a marriage and it isn’t working and you know that you’ve honestly tried your best to make it work and still no fruits, rather than kill yourself, please quit. Marriage should not be endured but enjoyed; in the words of Shawn.<\/p>\n
I have one honest question; if you both have tried your best and it still doesn’t work out, then what next? Should you still continue in that relationship? Should you suffer till death?<\/p>\n
I think Shawn should leave this divorce matter for the legs that wear it; it’s easy to judge from afar but harder when you are wearing the shoes.<\/p>\n
There are so many things that make life complicated; don’t let marriage be among them.<\/p>\n
