The colour and state of your fingernails can let you know when something is wrong inside your body. So if you observe something usual on your nails, it’s important you visit a dermatologist.<\/p>\n

Here are 8 warning signs from your nails<\/p>\n

1.CLUBBED NAILS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Clubbed nails are the opposite of spoon nails. The cause is usually hypoxia, a lack of oxygen. Clubbed nails can serve as a red flag for underlying lung disease like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).<\/p>\n

2. FUNGAL NAIL INFECTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

You probably have a fungal nail infection if your nails are thick, yellow or green, brittle or broken.<\/p>\n

3. PITTING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pitting could serve as a red flag for the chronic skin disease, psoriasis. More than half of psoriasis sufferers experience pitting.<\/p>\n

Beau’s line can serve as a red flag for uncontrolled diabetes or circulation problems.<\/p>\n

5. SPOON NAILS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spoon nails usually indicate hemochromatosis, a liver condition where there is too much iron being produced in your system. Spoon nails can also serve as a red flag for iron-deficiency anaemia, low blood oxygen levels from not taking in or absorbing enough iron.<\/p>\n

6. WHITE SPOTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you have white spots on your nails that doesn’t appear to fade when you push them, it could serve as a red flag for true leuconychia which is a white discoloration usually due to an injury to the nail.<\/p>\n

7. SPLINTER HEMORRHAGES<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you notice these long, black, splinter-like lines after smashing your hand in the door, then you shouldn’t worry too much. But if you observe these long, black, splinter-like lines and you haven’t hurt yourself recently, it could serve as a red flag for bacterial endocarditis which is an infection of the valves and inner lining of the heart.<\/p>\n

8. ONYCHOLYSIS<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you haven’t hurt your finger recently and you notice this, you should see a doctor because it could serve as a red flag for an overactive thyroid gland.<\/p>\n

But if the white spots appear to fade when you push them, it could serve as a red flag for liver or kidney problems.<\/p>\n
