{"id":25368,"date":"2016-04-13T09:42:28","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T08:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.elcrema.com\/?p=25368"},"modified":"2016-04-13T09:42:28","modified_gmt":"2016-04-13T08:42:28","slug":"marijuana-receptor-might-be-the-key-to-solving-male-infertility-researchers-find","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.elcrema.com\/marijuana-receptor-might-be-the-key-to-solving-male-infertility-researchers-find\/","title":{"rendered":"MARIJUANA RECEPTOR MIGHT BE THE KEY TO SOLVING MALE INFERTILITY, RESEARCHERS FIND"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elcrema.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/men-infertility.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25369\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.elcrema.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/men-infertility.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.elcrema.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/men-infertility.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.elcrema.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/men-infertility-300x189.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Marijuana has long been linked with increasing the risk of male infertility and in a research report appearing in the April 2016 issue of The <b><i>FASEB Journal<\/i><\/b>, scientists show that a cannabinoid receptor, called &#8220;CB2,&#8221; helps regulate the creation of sperm.<\/p>\n<p>This provides more evidence that marijuana intake can disrupt male fertility, although it also suggests a therapeutic strategy for treating male infertility.<\/p>\n<p>According to Paola Grimaldi, Ph.D., a researcher involved in the work from the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention, School of Medicine at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in Rome, Italy: &#8220;The possibility to improve male fertility is one of the main focuses of this study, since infertility is a worldwide problem that affect up to 15% of couples in which male factors account for almost 20-70%.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To conduct the research, Grimaldi and colleagues treated three groups of mice with different agents for 14 to 21 days. The first group was treated with a specific activator of the CB2 receptor. The second group was treated with a specific inhibitor of the CB2 receptor. The third group received only a saline solution and served as the control group.
