It’s funny how we sometimes think we know so much about something and everything, but then, with some research, we find out that our knowledge of those things aren’t really as wide as imagined and believed.<\/p>\n

I have put together a list of 24 words and things I’m almost certain you never knew. The good part though, is that they come with their definitions. So sit back, relax, and learn.<\/p>\n

1. AGLET<\/b><\/p>\n

This is that plastic covering you find on a shoelace.<\/p>\n

2. BARM<\/b><\/p>\n

When you pour a beer, the foam that forms on top is what is called barm.<\/p>\n

3. OVERMORROW<\/b><\/p>\n

Ever wondered what the day after tomorrow is called? Well, now you know!<\/p>\n

4. APHTHONG<\/b><\/p>\n

Those letters that are part of a word’s spelling, but usually silent in their pronunciation. For example, the letters “gh” in the word, ‘Knight’ are an aphthong.<\/p>\n

5. BOX TENT<\/b><\/p>\n

The table you find in the middle of a pizza box.<\/p>\n

6. PETRICHOR<\/b><\/p>\n

The smell you get outside, after the rain.<\/p>\n

7. VOCABLES <\/b><\/p>\n

Those fillers that singers add to their music to either spice it up or make up for shortage of lyrics. Examples of vocables are ‘na na na na’, ‘la la la la’, etc.<\/p>\n

8. INTERROBANG<\/b><\/p>\n

A combination of the question mark and the exclamation mark, like this — ?!<\/p>\n

9. KEEPER<\/b><\/p>\n

That loop in your belt that keeps the end in place after it has passed through the buckle.<\/p>\n

10. PUNT<\/b><\/p>\n

The bottom of a wine bottle<\/p>\n

11. OCTOTHORPE<\/b><\/p>\n

The # button on your phone.<\/p>\n

12. NURDLE<\/b><\/p>\n

A tiny dab of toothpaste. Or that wavy depiction of toothpaste on the pack.<\/p>\n

13. LEMNISCATE<\/b><\/p>\n

This refers to the infinity symbol.<\/p>\n

14. DYSANIA<\/b><\/p>\n

This is what you call the state of not being able to get out of bed in the morning.<\/p>\n

15. DESIRE PATH<\/b><\/p>\n

A path created by natural means, usually because it is the shortest or most easily navigated way.<\/b><\/p>\n

16. COLLYWOBBLES<\/b><\/p>\n

Next time you get butterflies in your stomach, you know what to call it.<\/p>\n

17. CRAPULENCE<\/b><\/p>\n

The feeling of sickness you get after drinking excessively.<\/p>\n

18. TITTL<\/b><\/p>\n

The dot you find on an ‘i’ or ‘j’.<\/p>\n

19. PHOSPHENES<\/b><\/p>\n

The light you see when you shut your eyes and press your hands against them.<\/p>\n

20. PURLICUE<\/b><\/p>\n

The space between the thumb and the forefingers.<\/p>\n

21. FEAT<\/b><\/p>\n

A dangling piece of curly hair.<\/p>\n

22. WAMBLE<\/b><\/p>\n

The funny sound your stomach makes when you’re hungry or sick in the stomach.<\/p>\n

23. LUNULE<\/b><\/p>\n

The top white part of a nail.<\/p>\n

24. RECTAL TENESMUS<\/b><\/p>\n

The feeling of incomplete defecation.<\/p>\n
