Most arguments between couples is about money and according to a survey published in the Forum for Family and Consumer Issues, finances proved to be the leading cause of conflict in marriage, with 39 percent of respondents listing it as their primary issue and 54 percent as their secondary issue.<\/p>\n

Below are 5 mistakes couples make about money<\/p>\n

1. CONFLICTING SPENDING HABITS:<\/b><\/p>\n

Couples with conflicting spending habits tend to have money problems that can ruin marriages. According to a study, penny pinchers and reckless spenders tend to marry the other, but these couples report unhappier marriages than those in which both spouses had similar spending habits. I am not saying you shouldn\u2019t have a partner with a different spending habit but the key here is managing the disparity in spending between both couples.<\/p>\n

2. HIDING DEBTS:<\/b><\/p>\n

Hiding debts from your partner is another mistake couples make about money which can have a negative impact on their marriage. We need to understand hiding debts from your partner can be harmful as infidelity and it\u2019s really important to be open about your finances with your partner.<\/p>\n

3. NOT TALKING ABOUT FINANCE:<\/b><\/p>\n

Most couples think it\u2019s really not important to talk about money and it\u2019s a really wrong idea to have. It\u2019s really important to discuss finance with your partner especially before you make purchases that could hit the family finances. You should understand money matters can have a negative impact on any relationship.<\/p>\n

4. NOT HAVING A FINANCIAL PLAN:<\/b><\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t plan ruining your marriage, it\u2019s important you have a financial plan. It\u2019s important you discuss with your partner how financial responsibility should be split and also how money should be spent. If you have a financial plan as a couple it would erase some money problems that might arise later.<\/p>\n

5. THINKING YOU CAN BUY LOVE:<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a Brigham Young University study, couples with two materialistic spouses were worse off on nearly every measure. Following behind were couples with one materialistic spouse. Couples who have a strong love for money are more prone to having money issues.<\/p>\n
