WHAT SHOULD BE A YARDSTICK FOR GOING A RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE?

dating couple

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Elcrema Sunday Love Special; a forum where diverse love and relationship issues are discussed.

People enter relationships all the time, and many relationships don’t get to last. Is it because people enter the wrong relationship, or they enter a relationship for the wrong reasons?

Drama and Shawn will share with us their opinions on the yardstick for having a relationship with someone.

Yardstick for going into a relationship with someone? I don’t know. I say it depends on you, what you want out of the relationship. There’s no generally or widely accepted yardstick for dating, only individual. So it very largely and solely depends on what you want out of the relationship, as an individual. Some people want sex all the time, so they look for a partner that can give them just that. For some, it’s companionship and friendship, so they look for someone on whom they find a companion. There are those who want to get married in the near future or maybe have kids, so they go into a relationship as well, in order to get all of these things. That’s not to forget those who want financial and material gains from a relationship; they also go out of their way to look for someone who can provide for them.

So for me, the yardstick is you, what you want. Is it love or friendship, money, children, etc, then make sure you go out of your way to look for who matches the profile. Although if you asked for my advice, I’d say, nothing beats friendship and companionship. If you make that your number one reason for going into a relationship, you’d be very glad you did,  because when you have that, you have happiness, you have peace, and you have support.
