Is there a rightful age to start dating? I do not think there is a rightful age for one to start dating because first of all, dating has absolutely nothing to do with age…like the popular saying goes, “age is nothing but a number”. Age has little role to play in almost everything we do today—and that is the reason why in many advanced parts of the world, little emphasis is laid over it. All they care about is what you have upstairs; what your mental capacity is, and how maturely you can handle certain matters. That is just what one requires to get in a relationship.
Look at Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, they may be adults today, but they began by as far back as 3 years ago…while they were about 16 and 17 respectively. Look at Jaden Smith and Kendall Jenner; also young teenagers…the list goes on and on. I have seen people who are even younger date themselves, so it doesn’t matter what age a person is, they can date whoever they like provided they are ready for it, and by that, I refer to their mental frame at the time. Do they know what it means to be involved with a person of the opposite sex? Do they understand what it means to love and respect someone? Do they have basic sex education? If the answer to these questions is “yes”, then I believe the parties involved are absolutely ready to date. Of course, you do not expect them to answer these questions for you per se, you as the parent or guardian are expected to watch out for signs; signs of maturity and a sense of responsibility in your ward(s).
Another thing is, you also need to be there to give them advice, especially in matters of sexual nature; tell them why they cannot engage in sexual intercourse yet and basically be their guide. I believe that if the right information, attitude and leadership are in place, there’s no reason why a teenager or a young adult cannot get involved in a relationship, After all, there are people who are above 40 but still cannot get it right in dating. So yeah, mental maturity is all it takes, not age.
That’s our opinion on the matter, what do you really think? Should there be an age bracket or can people start dating at any age as far as there is guidance?
