Show me your engagement ring and I would tell you how long your marriage would last.

According to researchers from Emory University, spending less than $2,000 on an engagement ring decreased the risk of divorce while spending more than $20,000 does the opposite (increase the risk of divorce).

The study suggests we apply the “less is more” policy.

The researchers compared 3,000 couple’s wedding and engagement expenses to the relative length of their marriages.

So what could be the reason for the relationship between the price of engagement ring and the relative length of marriages?

According to the study, stress related to financial matters and debt is one of the reasons why the relationship between the price of engagement ring and relative length of marriages exist.

The study also suggested that those who spent over $20,000 on wedding ceremonies and receptions were up to 3.5 times more likely to divorce.

So if you want your union to last, maybe you should apply the “less is more” policy.
