It’s actually normal these days to see couple live together, have kids and still aren’t married. Well, research says that only one in five of those couples would be together till their first child turns 15.
The research carried out by the Marriage Foundation in the UK also found that only 48 percent of people aged 20 today will ever marry, with the forecast warning that marriage is becoming a lifestyle choice for the wealthy and a relative rarity among the poor.
The research also suggests that the reasons for later marriage include more women going into education and beginning careers, as well as the costs of weddings and children.
The alarming stat from the study is that only Just 20% of unmarried parents will be together for their first child’s 15th birthday; meaning most unwed parents today would separate in the nearest future and most wouldn’t get married.
According to Retired High Court judge Sir Paul Coleridge, who founded the Marriage Foundation: ‘The research reveals yet again how bleak are the prospects of so many young people … when they do not insist on marriage as the basis for parenthood. I am profoundly saddened and alarmed looking at these forecast outcomes for the next generation and their children.
‘Forty years in the family courts showed me on a daily basis the human cost and suffering arising from family breakdown for everyone concerned.’
