Divorce is quite a tedious task. It’s so sad that after falling in love with someone and agreeing to spend the rest of your life with that person, the marriage crashes — harmony turns disaster, love turns into hate…and then talks of divorce looms over.
According to a study published in the Journal Economica, women are happier than men and live a more satisfied life after divorce.
The researchers studied 10,000 people between the ages of 16 and 60 over a period of 20 years. The participants were regularly asked to rate their happiness after major milestones, including divorce, death of a spouse and loss.
The researchers examined the psychological process in which humans adapt to new circumstances.
Findings from their research reveal that women are more content than men for up to five years following the end of the marriage. Men on the other hand also felt happy, but the women had an increased level in happiness.
According to lead researcher, Yannis Georgellis: ‘’There is always hope that life will be better than before marriage”.
“In the study we took into account the fact that divorce can sometimes have a negative financial impact on women, but despite that it still makes them much happier than men.” He said.
