A growing amount of research has warned about the hazards of not having enough sleep as you risk having heart diseases, obesity and other conditions.

So what is the right amount of sleep our body needs? The largest physician-based organization for sleep medicine, The American Academy of Sleep Medicine suggests adults should get at least seven hours of sleep a night.

Getting less than six hours of sleep a night has been associated with heart attacks, obesity, diabetes, stroke and reduced mental alertness.

Inadequate sleep could lead to obesity by driving up the levels of appetite-inducing hormones.

Another study also found that healthy adults had higher blood pressure after sleeping for four hours in a night compared to when they slept for eight hours.

So ensure you get at least seven hours of sleep tonight.
