Most wives and girlfriends out there would be surprised to find out that most men prefer the cooking of their mum.
A 2012 study by Food Network UK revealed that more than half of men secretly prefer their mother’s food to that of their wives and girlfriends. About 75 percent of the men in the poll revealed that the competition between their mother and wife has caused conflict at one time in their relationship.
The study also found that more than one in ten men think their wife feels under pressure to live up to her mother-in-law’s cooking skills and a surprising 47 percent of men even showed some impetus to complain to their partner if her food isn’t up to taste. One in ten revealed to have refused to eat dinner because of the cooking while an audacious 13 percent has even told their partner to take some cooking lessons from their mother.
The research revealed that men prefer their mother’s food because they are more ‘hearty and traditional’ compared to their partner’s. The men also revealed that mothers have a wider repertoire of meals and always cook something they know he likes. Wives and girlfriends, on the other hand, are likely to dish up pre-prepared meals from the freezer or microwavable dishes.
Spokesman for Food Network, Nick Thorogood said: ”It’s quite endearing men prefer their mothers cooking.
”As adults, men still seek the comfort and tradition of the cooking they have grown up with, so turn to their mums for what they perceive as a ‘proper meal’.”
